PROCESS DESCRIPTION

Retained austenite which is left in the steel structure after hardening will lead (in the course of time) to dimensional changes of precision parts and reduce the wear resistance of tools. This problem can be solved using liquid nitrogen. Cooling the parts to temperatures lower than minus 80 °C leads to a quick transformation of the austenite into martensite.
